The Washington County Public Schools Education Foundation enhances education for all students by securing resources to support innovative teaching and learning.
The foundation was established in 2009 to support and encourage Washington County, Maryland, public schools. It serves as a catalyst for uniting schools and their communities. Through volunteer efforts and funding from businesses, individuals, and civic organizations, the goal of educational excellence can be achieved.
The WCPS Education Foundation was incorporated in the spring of 2009 to respond to the local need for increased community involvement and support for public education. The Foundation’s board of directors is comprised of parents, business and civic leaders, and WCPS staff members.
The Foundation seeks to secure adequate resources, public and private, needed to enhance the educational process by supporting activities not typically funded by tax dollars; plan and support special initiatives that promote WCPS to the entire community; and promote school needs and encourage exceptional ideas that improve the educational process.
To meet these goals, the Foundation has instituted two hallmark initiatives, the Innovative Grant Program (formerly known as the Mini-Grant Program), and GLOW Financial Literacy and College Financial Planning Curriculum. The foundation also runs the FAFSA Frenzy Program, helping Washington County seniors complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) since 2014. The Foundation’s Manager and Board of Directors raise funds throughout the year to support these efforts. As another source of support, the foundation is hosting a signature event on June 15, 2018: Ready, Set, PLAY!
