The Washington County Public Schools Education Foundation was incorporated in the spring of 2009 to respond to the local need for increased community involvement and support for public education. The Foundation’s board of directors is comprised of parents, business and civic leaders, and WCPS staff members. These community members come together to support and encourage Washington County, Maryland, public schools.
The WCPS Education Foundation exists to enhance education for all students by securing resources to support innovative teaching and learning. The Foundation serves as a catalyst for uniting schools and their communities.
Educational excellence will be achieved through volunteer engagement and financial support from community stakeholders.
The Foundation seeks to secure adequate resources, public and private, needed to enhance the educational process by supporting activities not typically funded by tax dollars; plan and support special initiatives that promote WCPS to the entire community; and promote school needs and encourage exceptional ideas that improve the educational process.
To meet these goals, the Foundation has instituted two hallmark initiatives, the Innovative Grant Program (formerly known as the Mini-Grant Program), and GLOW Financial Literacy and College Financial Planning Curriculum. The foundation also runs the FAFSA Frenzy Program, helping Washington County seniors complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) since 2014. The Foundation’s Manager and Board of Directors raise funds throughout the year to support these efforts. As another source of support, the foundation hosts a signature fundraising event: Ready, Set, PLAY!
